Illusionist Theatre

“The Illusionist Theater is not about deceiving; it’s about awakening to illusions.”

The Illusionist Theater created by Maicon Clenk is a unique artistic expression that brings to the stage the great mystery of the universe in visual and physical spectacles, integrating stories, illusionism, and movement, creating experiences that reconnect people of all ages and nationalities to the magic of life.

The magic

In Illusionist Theatre, diversity is integrated with the magic art in shows where the magician, as he is popularly known, gives rise to stories with countless other and different characters, which can be interpreted by actors, dancers and acrobats, according to the specificity of each spectacle, in stories where everything and everyone can make magic happen.

Form of expression

The Illusionist Theatre expresses itself through a body and visual dramaturgy that does not use words, that is, UNIVERSAL, for all ages and nationalities. Each work has a physical score that is faithfully performed by the performers and integrated with the other scenic elements and the effects of illusionism.

Magic effects

In Illusionist Theatre, illusion techniques, which are never revealed to the public, are at the service of a story and integrated with other forms of artistic expression.

The themes

The themes are about the great mystery that is the universe and bring points of view that instigate, beyond normality, thinking and feeling about what reality is and what is behind it. The stories take place, most of the time, in fantastic universes that are not limited to human normality.

Is it all an illusion?

“There’s an unquestionable magical truth guiding natural events, and illusion and reality are themes that intrigue people worldwide and are part of life, or rather, they are life itself.

The term ‘magic’ has been used for millennia to represent everything that is inexplicable. There are no peoples, however primitive, without magic. First, we create myths, naming gods as higher forces. Then, we seek answers ranging from science to WhatsApp. Dreaming is part of human nature because, even with a supposed consciousness, we don’t know who we are, where we came from, where we are, or where we’re going. We live much more in the unexplainable. We are immersed in a great mystery.

We don’t know what life actually is, a constant flow that composes itself into temporary forms. Everything changes all the time, and you will never be the same as you are in this moment. We have the illusion that everything is still when there is only change. Each observer has a different perception that doesn’t grasp or keep up with the movement of the whole.

We can’t decipher things and understand the great mystery, so we create realities, which are various attempts to understand the universe and feel safer.

How is it possible to reconnect with magic?

The awareness that everything is an illusion awakens us to the existence of various perspectives on the same point. My work is aimed at those tired of a chaotic world, affected by people’s selfishness and insensitivity, who realize that life is much more than imposed limitations. It’s for those who want to experience the wonders of the great mystery of the universe and know how valuable experiences are and that they will be carried forever.

Since childhood, I have been an artist who delved deep into the study and practice of multiple arts, going through theater, magic, puppets, dance, and circus, researching with renowned companies from Brazil, Europe, and the USA. As an author, director, choreographer, and illusionist, I have directed over 5,000 international artists and created works that have been watched by over 20 million people of all ages. For 20 years, I dedicated myself to creating a language that could provide some experience to reconnect people to magic.

I realized that Illusionism is one of the most effective and universal tools to enchant and sensitize the audience. Magical art can lead to freedom, inspire, question logic, awaken other perspectives on normality, challenge the known and unknown laws of physics, and refine sensitivity at all levels. For me, those fascinating and ancient techniques could expand throughout the stage space and also express pertinent and current themes. I knew it was possible to unite the fantastic of illusionism with the quality of grand theatrical productions, dramaturgical depth, and the universality and power of bodily and visual expression.

That’s when I created ‘Illusionist Theater,’ an artistic language that innovates the way illusionism is presented, brings the mysteries of the universe to the stage, and creates magical experiences for a universal audience. Art overflows life, and ‘Illusionist Theater’ is a safe place to experience the most beautiful of magic. Illusionist Theater is not about deceiving; it’s about awakening to illusions. It’s a pause in the race for survival.”
